The Central Pole, or just the Pole, is an abstract geographic feature equidistant from all points of the Edge which represents the absolute center of the Plane. The Pole is visibly locatable via the First Epoch Star, which rests directly above the point and has since its creation. The Pole is an important geographic reference point, serving as the center for various coordinate systems like SR, but it is also an important scientific curiosity that explains a lot about the natural world.1

Geography

The Pole is located on the ocean, specifically located on the Deadman’s Sea; so named for the violent and devastating weather which occur there. This weather results from the Plane’s oceanic and atmospheric circulation which together create a violent vortex of cold and warm airs and water. The Pole is almost always engulfed in brutal storms and oceanic whirlpools which make it unnavigable to sailors.

History

The Central Pole has not always been located in a sea nor has it always been so chaotic; however, it has always been identifiable by the location of the First Epoch Star. Two primary events occurred that made the Central Pole into the location it is known today. Firstly, the Water Wars and Great Flood would see the creation of the ocean and place the Central Pole on the sea. Secondly, the end of the God-War and passing of the Harmonic Treaty would usher in the complex weather patterns which created the Deadman’s Sea.

Prior to the Great Flood the Pole was perceived as a prestigious piece of land for a God to claim as a part of their territory. It was a difficult piece of land to defend and many Gods sought the prestige of owning it, thus it was a heavily fought after territory and was never owned for long.

On multiple occasions throughout the God-War, primarily during the God Councils, the Central Pole was used as a meeting place for the Gods. A multitude of stars detail the Higher-Gods Courthouse, a massive structure erected in the heavens below the First Epoch Star by the Creation Quadrinity on special occasions.

This article is considered complete for the moment, but is missing sections which can be elaborated on as the setting develops! If you think it needs expansion now, suggest an edit through a GitHub issue!

The History header could be expanded upon as to how the Central Pole became important to sophont history. A section on the ecology surrounding the Central Pole could also be added.
